Who can apply? Do I have to have a clear business idea before I apply?
Provided you’re a mum you can apply! The program is open to mums of any age and background who have the desire to run a business. It helps to have a general idea of the business you would like to start, but don’t worry if you don’t – the right attitude is far more important. Anyone can apply, as long as they really want to be in business, have the enthusiasm to learn how to get there and the desire to share with others.
I have very small children and no one to care for them. Will this exclude me from the program?
Not at all. We can provide childcare on a needs basis at the workshop venue for each session.
Is it possible to apply for a business loan?
Yes, it is. Once you have successfully completed a business plan, you can then apply for an interest free loan of up to $5000, through our partnership with The American Express Foundation.
How much does it cost?
The program is absolutely free. (Thanks, sponsors.) Enrolment will not affect Centrelink payments.
What is the time commitment for the workshops?
Each program comprises 11 days of workshops, which are scheduled over a three-to-four-month period. The days are 9.30am to 2.30pm to allow for school drop-off and pick-up times, with half an hour for lunch. Find out more about the workshops here.
How often are the programs run?
We are trying to keep up with demand and currently run several programs each year (in Sydney, Brisbane and two locations in Melbourne). What is Bizness Babes?
Bizness Babes is a joint initiative of The Body Shop and the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training, which has been set up to support mothers who want to start their own businesses. Through a free and fun program that includes practical training and ongoing support, we work with marginalised women to build the ideas and skills that will ensure their success.
