Our first interview in the series is with Jo from 'the little hip traveller'.

The name of your business?

The name of the biz is 'the little hip traveller', "For happy trips with your little hips".

We also have a blog, facebook and twitter.

The little hip traveller is an info and review website incorporating ALL things related with travelling and being on the go with children. Its a treasure trove hip reviews on travel products, holidays, destinations, accommodation, tour operators and lots more. There's competitions, a travel blog, fun ideas for family days out, tips, tricks and advice and information for successful family trips.  Income is generated through advertising and sponsorship on the website, blog and newsletter, and businesses are encouraged to provide suitable associated products for review.

When & Where did you start bizness babes?

I did the Werribee Feb - Apr 2010 course

How has it helped your business?

Before I started the course, I had a very loose idea of what I wanted to do. The moment I started the course it all changed, and being in a room full of many inspirational women (both biz babes and mentors) made me realise I can do anything I set my mind to! I loved attending each day and learnt so much each session. My confidence grew, and I felt happy to ask even the most stupid question. The fact that most attendees are mums to small children made me realise that I wasn't just dreaming, and through hard work and perseverance, you can get somewhere.

The course helped me incorporate all my travel, language and business skills and knowledge, my background, my interests and my kids,  into 'the little hip traveller' which is something that I haven't been able to combine before.

After the course, the ongoing support from both the mentors and fellow graduates has been superb. Even more follow up activities/courses would be welcomed though!

The biggest lesson you have learnt when it comes to your business?

Get the business plan done early. Then you'll know how much money you'll have to start up, and how much more you need (as its always much more that you think!)

Also, everything takes time. Rome wasn't built in a day. Whilst my website has been built (and even sorting that out takes ages), I have been working very hard on building a strong audience through social networking means. I have built great networks through this, which only increases potential business contacts and enhances potential.

Working from home isn't easy. You end up doing all your work 'after hours' ie when the kids have gone to bed....late into the night, and its amazing how many other mums send emails at midnight too!

Why should a mum apply to bizness babes?

Why ever not? What a fabulous opportunity to pursue your dreams, and enter the world of business with a supportive team behind you. Even if you have a teeny tiny idea, why not follow it up? You've nothing to loose - you gain business knowledge, motivation, even childcare and lots of fun along the way!
